Switchshop is a high-end retail sports store, which offers products for both winter sports, urban street products and water sports. Originally a physical store, Switchshop subsequently opened an online store using an Open Source platform.
Using an Open Source platform, Switchshops webshop faced a series of challenges such as the complexity of adding sizes, color variations and current stock information to a product. The main challenge for Switchshop was to find a new solution tailored to the company including the diversity and complexity of a webshop with different seasonal focuses. Their criteria were to have a solution with emphasis on stability, ease of use, seamless integration to their ERP system and which did not require a permanent technical staff.
Switchshop decided to use Dynamicweb as their ecommerce platform because of its adaptability and scalability and ease of use with no additional plugins or programming. Webshop management was eased considerably with the integration framework where product variations such as size, color and stock status are imported directly from the ERP system. In terms of visitor experience, page navigation from one seasonal range to another has been simplified – all factors that increase the chances of a customer adding products to his shopping cart.
For Switchshop, the result was an online shop much more manageable and with extended operational functionality. Switchshop obtained a greater control over maintenance costs of the webshop and gained more time to manage the business, because of Dynamicweb platform’s ease of use. For Switchshop the implementation showcased the advantages of using a licensed platform versus the disadvantages of an Open Source platform and dismantled the myth of high costs for a licensed solution when calculating total cost of ownership.
